A City Built On Cars Embraces a Streetcar

It took 10 years to go from concept to the first passenger boarding a streetcar in Detroit, but it’s been worth the wait. Consider these numbers, especially impressive in a city literally and figuratively built around cars:

–  $7 billion in new investments along the streetcar’s path since 2013

–  211 development projects

–  $2.4 billion development in planning

“I think the QLINE is going to have more of an effect than anybody believes,” said Dan Gilbert, founder and chairman of Quicken Loans. Gilbert has acquired 95 properties near the QLINE and was the leader behind securing the naming rights for Detroit’s streetcar.
